Morphine extraction:
1. 1 kg Opium was dissolved in boiling water (750 ml).

4. The solution was filtered, the residue dissolved in boiling water (250 ml) and re-filtered.

Yes, it's a known process. But I was wondering about the specifics, like reaction time and amounts. Can't find any info.

Hi, before synthesizing with anhydride, should we evaporate the hydrochloride solution or add anhydride to the same solution?

WallpaperAll the filtered liquid from step 4 is combined in one container then heated up until it starts to steam, then you keep adding ammonium chloride to the liquid until the ph reaches 8 or 9

Let me know if you're interested. I would just be an intermediate, I have a little bit of this opium if you want to check what it's like.

I think there are a lot of problems in this process :
Example :
1 - they pass from from 65g of Morphine free base to 30g of Morphine HCl... Nobody would be so careless with a valued product... You just need to add hydrochloride acid at ambient temperature and controlled pH. Nobody will accept to loose more than 50% of a product like this.
2 - WHY using morphine hydrochloride to acetyl it in heroin, get heroin free base (???) and then pass again heroin base to hydrochloride ?? And what happens to the chlorine ions from morphine ??? They disappear ?
3 - Why they are drying the heroin product (and loosing weight) for add HCl later, assuming it is in solution, to make it evaporate finally ? (I mean, this drying on MgSO4 is not really necessarily at this point... But ok, quite common in chemistry, but not really useful here)

Honestly I have serious doubt on this process, especially about efficiency which is terrible.
